Why Small Businesses Matter
Shop small, do big things for your community
Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!
Meet Kate Stone, founder of Kate Stone College Consulting.
Why did you start your business?
To help students prepare for and get into their best-fit colleges! This started with applying what I know about captivating storytelling, how to stand out to colleges, and how to leverage data-driven application strategy. It then advanced to helping students with their next major pain point, landing a great job upon graduation.
What is your best-selling product/service?
My best-selling service is college coaching. This helps families develop application strategies and college essays that help them stand out to colleges. We serve several dozen families a year with our full-service packages and hundreds of other students with our online workshops.
Have you reimagined your small business?
When I started my business, it focused on just applying to college. Over time I have reimagined my business to help families begin the process earlier and then stay with them through their college experience so we can help them launch successful careers. I also put much more attention to creating an amazing culture within my company that allows my team achieve their personal, financial and professional goals. We also put much more emphasis now on serving parents -- reducing their stress, building their confidence, and informing them of all the unknowns.
