Marking 200 Years of Darien’s Independence & 100 Years of Women’s Suffrage

Time and Again — Art Show and Fundraiser

Leading artists from the region will mark two major milestones of 2020 with an art show and fundraiser, Time and Again, featuring the artists’ creative interpretations to mark Darien’s 200th Anniversary and the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment.

Organized by the Concepts Group, a group of artists who collaborate, critique and inspire each other’s artistic endeavors, Time and Again will run at the Darien Historical Society from February 1—15. There will be and Opening Cocktail Reception on Saturday, February 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 for members and $30 for non members. Please register online at www.darienhistorical.org or call 203.655.9233.

“The year 2020 is both a landmark year for the town and for women throughout the country, and the artists of the Concepts Group wanted to celebrate the year in a special and creative way,” said Lisa Thoren, a former Society board member and Darien artist who organized the Art Show and Fundraiser.

A Sip and Collage workshop will be held at the Society on Thursday, February 13 at 7 p.m. Artists from the Concepts Group will lead participants in creating a special Valentine’s Day collage, with materials provided by the artists. The cost of the program is $30 for members and $40 for non-members. To register for the workshop, please call the Society at 203.655.9233.

“This should be a fun evening to invite some friends to the Museum for an evening of creativity and refreshments,” Thoren said. “We’ll be making special collages for Valentine’s Day, so participants can present a handmade gift to a special person in their lives.”

The following Concepts Group artists will have their work on display:

Donna Collins of Darien, an award-winning painter, Carol Conze, a freelance artist whose works are in both private and corporate collections, Cate Leach, a painter, printmaker and assemblage artist, Pam Lindberg, an award-winning painter, Jane Lubin, a mixed-media artist and board member of Artspace, Karen Neems, an award winning photo collage and mixed media artist from Stamford, Mary Manning, an artist whose abstract images are based on the creation and continuance of life forms, Lisa Thoren, an art director and artist who creates using a graphic approach, Meg Tweedy, a conceptual artist, and Mary Whalen, a Westport painter and writer who began her career in the 1940s.
