The Darien Foundation Honors Ward Glassmeyer for 20 Years of Service

The Darien Foundation would like to recognize and express sincere appreciation for Board President Ward Glassmeyer’s 20 years of service and dedication to the nonprofit organization. The organization is highlighting this milestone as part of their Darien Forward campaign.

Ward began his involvement on The Darien Foundation Board in 2002 and was chosen by founder Richard Chilton to become his successor as Chairman in 2008. Under Ward’s guidance, The Darien Foundation has significantly increased the amount of its grants annually and to date has awarded over $5.5 million in grants to benefit Darien’s youth, safety and security services, and overall quality of life.

“Volunteering for The Darien Foundation is a great opportunity to give back to our community,” said Ward. “I am always impressed by the super focus and dedication of our board to the town.”

Glassmeyer has overseen the growth of the organization in many ways, including the expansion of its mission to include capital as well as technology projects and the expansion of the Board of Directors from 10 to 24 members.

Ward puts an emphasis on community collaborations. He was instrumental in launching Corbin Cares to provide meals to food-insecure families and seniors in need during the Covid-19 lockdown. More recently, The Darien Foundation partnered with the Darien Library and Abilis Inc, funding accessible appliances and equipment for Darien Library Café, which is staffed by Abilis adults.

“The Darien Foundation and the community of Darien has benefitted greatly from Ward’s vision and his commitment to community,” said Sarah Woodberry, Executive Director of The Darien Foundation. “We are looking Darien Forward to many more years under his leadership.”
