New Canaan Challenges Friendly Rival Darien to Annual “Most Generous Town” Competition
The week before Thanksgiving, New Canaan and Darien will hold its annual challenge to see which is the “Most Generous Town” by raising the most funds for either New Canaan Community Foundation or The Community Fund of Darien. This year, the competition begins Thursday, November 17th and ends on Thanksgiving Day, November 24th at 11:59 pm.

The winning town will take home the “Turkey Trophy” and bragging rights for the year, and their residents will take pride in the knowledge that their community makes charitable giving a priority. New Canaan took home last year’s title, but both organizations celebrated after collectively raising more than $500,000 to support local nonprofits. The towns are currently tied at two “Most Generous Town” titles each.
Inspired by the global Giving Tuesday movement to unleash the power of generosity, the two organizations created the event in 2017 as a way to use their residents’ competitive spirit to benefit their neighbors in need. This much-needed financial support addresses critical local needs such as human services, behavioral health, youth and education programs, senior services and more. No matter who takes the title this year, it’s a win for both towns and the local partner nonprofits that will benefit from the dollars raised.
Founded in 1977, the New Canaan Community Foundation serves as New Canaan’s local partner for advice, leadership, and facilitation of charitable giving.
