Community Health Awareness Fair in Darien on Sunday

SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), along with the Darien Police Association, will host a Community Health Awareness Fair, Sunday, April 28 from 11 to 2 p.m.

“Georgie the Clown” will be welcoming everyone! There will be a bouncy house, craft tables (including make your own slime), face painting and free handouts. Dance on the DL in the house with HIP-HOP!

The CT State Police will be looking for volunteers to demonstrate what happens in a crash. They will have two driving simulators with them. Fresh Green Light Driving School will have plenty of goggles to demonstrate what it’s like to drive under the influence. East Coast Towing will also have a “crash car” just involved in a recent teen drunk driving incident. Liberation Programs will provide information on JUULS, E-Cigs, paraphernalia, etc.

Noroton Fire Department will be teaching people how to use fire extinguishers. Chelsea Piers will have three massage chairs with people to massage and have a table running raffles for memberships to Chelsea Piers.

SADD will be displaying distracted driving facts and info and a table on smoking dangers and the dangers of texting. Be sure to check out the lungs; which color is your lungs?

Other participants include The Renfrew Center of Connecticut, The Rowan Center, Parent Awareness, Liberation Programs, The Laurel House, Center for Hope/Family Services, MADD (Mother’ Against Drunk Driving, Planned Parenthood, Youth Asset Team, Dance on the DL (HIP HOP) to de-stress, Silver Hill Hospital, Post 53, Kids in Crisis, Darien Domestic Abuse Council, At Home in Darien, and NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness).

All these organizations will have tables with information and free handouts.

Depot concession will be open serving drinks and snacks. Also, on hand will be the Melt Truck, Uncle’s Hot Dog truck and an ice cream truck.

Admission is to item for the Darien Human Services Household goods closet. Current list of needs for the closet include toothbrushes, bath soap, toothpaste, razors, dish soap shaving cream, liquid floor/surface cleaner deodorant, pump hand soap, spray cleaners, laundry stain remover, disinfectant wipes, Windex glass cleaner, sponges, shampoo and conditioner, tall kitchen garbage bags, body wash, and disinfectant spray.
