Make & Take: Valentine's Day Cards
Friday, February 14th from 4 to 4:30 p.m.

Join the librarians on this international day of love at Darien Library. Decorate a card to give to your loved one on Valentine's Day! Open. Ages 3 and up.

Coffee with a Cop and K-9
Saturday, February 15th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Join officers from Darien Police Department for coffee, conversation, and a meet-and-greet with the furry friends of the K9 unit: Argo and Kenny! Enjoy a coffee or hot chocolate on us and get to know the police officers (and K9s!) that work for the Darien community. You won't want to miss the demonstration from our favorite K9s at 11:30 a.m. As a reminder, Kenny and Argo are working dogs so please check with their police handler before you say hello! Open. All ages welcome.

Tanglewood Marionettes: "Hansel and Gretel"
Monday, February 17th from 3 to 3:45 p.m.

Large, beautifully hand-crafted marionettes, colorful sets, and integrated lighting and sound create a fully immersive theatrical experience.

Hansel and Gretel is based on the classic fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, and features melodies from the Humperdinck opera. The colorful set is in the shape of a giant story book; as the pages turn, each new and exciting scene is revealed. The story itself is set in the mid-nineteenth century. As the tale unfolds, Hansel and Gretel must call upon their inner reserves and learn new methods to overcome the challenges they encounter while lost in the wood. Open. Ages 5 and up.

Registered: Children's Theatre Workshop
Tuesday, February 18th from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Join Ingrid Schaeffer in this theater workshop as children act out the story of Stone Soup. Play improvisation games and hear the story before children get dressed up to act it out. All you need to participate is an active imagination! Registration required. Ages 8 to 12.

Registered: Valentine's Day Cake Pops
Tuesday, February 18th from 4 to 5 p.m.

Join Food Explorers to make some delicious cake pops! You’ll learn how to make, bake, glaze and decorate your cake pops and learn about some healthy ingredient swaps along the way. Recipes will be nut free but may contain dairy and eggs.

Movie and Hot Chocolate: Up
Wednesday, February 19th from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.


Have a cup of hot chocolate, courtesy of the Children's Library, before joining the family for a matinee movie! An old man and a young explorer team up and take on the wilderness after the elderly salesman's plan to reach South America via helium balloons pays off. Against all odds, the unlikely pair come to rely on one another.

Rated PG. Runs 96 minutes. Open. Ages 3 and up.

Nutmeg Book Club: "Trombone Shorty"
Thursday, February 20th from 3 to 3:30 p.m.

Elementary students are invited to participate in this Young Readers edition of Nutmeg Book Club. Read a copy of "Trombone Shorty" by Troy Andrews before joining the librarians to discuss the book, listen to the author's music, and engage in a musical craft. Copies of the book can be borrowed from the Children's Library. Open. Ages 7 to 9.

Registered: Shadow Puppet Performance and Workshop
Friday, February 21st from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Oompapossum Puppets presents a colorful performance of Creatures of New England, a shadow puppet show about the animals that grace our sky, sea and land. After the performance, children will learn about this traditional art form and have the chance to create their very own shadow puppetry. Learn about everything from shadow puppetry movement to light source considerations as participants practice puppetry behind a shadow puppet screen. Registration required. Ages 6 to 8.

Graphic Novel Book Club: "New Kid"
Wednesday, February 26th from 4 to 4:45 p.m.

Graphic novels are great for young minds because they reinforce language with high quality images-- it engages both sides of your child's brain! Each month, we will discuss one of our favorite graphic novels each month. Join us for a lively discussion, tasty snacks, and activities that relate to each specific novel.

This month, join us for a discussion of the winner of the 2020 Newbery Award, New Kid by Jerry Craft. Grab a copy of the book in the Children's Library. Registration required. Ages 9 to 12.
