Maritime Aquarium to Open in the Evening for Festive Halloween Stroll, Oct. 28-30

The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk is dressing up for Halloween, and inviting guests in for spooktacular fun during special evening witching hours Oct. 28-30.

On those three days, the Aquarium will close as normal at 5 p.m. and then reopen at 5:30 p.m. for a “Halloween Stroll” with special treats, including bonus activities, animal encounters, free popcorn and parting goody bags for children.

“Many normal Halloween traditions are out the window this year, so we’re excited to offer the opportunity for kids and adults to put on their costumes and come out to celebrate in a fun and safe way,” said Aquarium spokesman Dave Sigworth. “Most importantly, there are no tricks involved but there are bags of treats!”

Halloween costumes are encouraged but optional. COVID-19 masks are required, but face-covering Halloween-costume masks are not allowed.

While the entire Aquarium will be open and decorated for the holiday, many of the Aquarium’s super, natural exhibits also will be transformed with family-friendly themes, such as “Sturgeon Graveyard” at the schooling-fish exhibit, “’80s Flashback” in the Long Island Sound galleries, and “Winter Wonderland” at the seals. Plus, through the Aquarium’s partnership with the Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County, local artists Liz Bannish and Kathleen Telesco will display special large prints and paintings.

In addition to those specters, er spectacles, guests can meet live creatures and learn about their care during animal encounters and “keeper talks” on the Sea Star stage. Plus, free story times will engage younger ghouls and bats.

Hours for the “Holiday Stroll” are 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Wed., Oct. 28 and Thurs., Oct. 29, and 5:30-9 p.m. on Fri., Oct. 30.

Regular apparition, er, admission prices apply: $26.95 adults; $24.95 seniors (65+); and $19.95 children (3-12). Children 2 & younger are free. Discounted “Halloween Stroll” admission for Aquarium members is $10 per person.

Admission is by advance online purchase only for a timed-ticket entry. (This will allow the Aquarium to encourage social distancing by limiting capacity.) Masks are required for all Aquarium guests over the age of 2.
