Darien Library Announces 1894 Day
Darien Library will celebrate its 127th Anniversary on May 26 by holding a third annual Day of Giving called “1894 Day.” The event will run from 12:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on May 26. This year, in honor of the Library’s 127th Anniversary, their goal is to raise $127,000.
All funds raised on 1894 Day will be dedicated directly to library resources. Darien Library is a true public-private partnership between the Town of Darien, which pays for salaries and operating expenses, and the Friends of the Library, who generously fund all of the books, audiobooks, e-books, computers, technology, research databases, and its impressive range of cultural and entertainment programs.
Festivities will take place in the Library courtyard throughout the day, including crafts and an ice cream truck from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. There will also be special giveaways for every suggested contribution level, including exclusive Darien Library car magnets, water bottles, and umbrellas. All attendees will also have the opportunity to be a part of Darien’s history and future that day by signing a “guest book” that will be added to Darien’s Time Capsule, organized by the Darien 2020 Bicentennial Committee.
