Darien Library celebrates 127th anniversary on May 26 with 1894 Day!

Darien Library Announces 1894 Day

Darien Library will celebrate its 127th Anniversary on May 26 by holding a third annual Day of Giving called “1894 Day.” The event will run from 12:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on May 26. This year, in honor of the Library’s 127th Anniversary, their goal is to raise $127,000.

All funds raised on 1894 Day will be dedicated directly to library resources. Darien Library is a true public-private partnership between the Town of Darien, which pays for salaries and operating expenses, and the Friends of the Library, who generously fund all of the books, audiobooks, e-books, computers, technology, research databases, and its impressive range of cultural and entertainment programs.

Festivities will take place in the Library courtyard throughout the day, including crafts and an ice cream truck from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. There will also be special giveaways for every suggested contribution level, including exclusive Darien Library car magnets, water bottles, and umbrellas. All attendees will also have the opportunity to be a part of Darien’s history and future that day by signing a “guest book” that will be added to Darien’s Time Capsule, organized by the Darien 2020 Bicentennial Committee.

The Library is asking the entire community for their support on May 26. Donors may give in person in the Library courtyard or online at any time at darienlibrary.org/donate. For more information, please contact the Library’s Administrative Office at 203-669-5220.
