Step Into The Secret Garden with Darien Library on Oct. 21

Darien Library and Barrett Bookstore welcome back New York Times bestselling author Marta McDowell for a moving account of how gardening deeply inspired Frances Hodgson Burnett, the author of the beloved children's classic The Secret Garden.

About the Author

Marta McDowell teaches landscape history and horticulture at the New York Botanical Garden and consults for private clients and public gardens. Timber Press published, Emily Dickinson's Gardening Life, The World of Laura Ingalls Wilder, The New York Times-bestselling All the Presidents' Gardens, and Beatrix Potter’s Gardening Life, now in its eighth printing. Marta is working on new book on gardening themes in mysteries with the working title Gardening Can Be Murder. She is the 2019 recipient of the Garden Club of America's Sarah Chapman Francis Medal for outstanding literary achievement.
