Darien's Thriving Youth Task Force Presents Vaping, Edibles, and the ‘New’ Marijuana: What Every Parent Needs to Know

Darien’s Thriving Youth Task Force is presenting “Vaping, Edibles, and the ‘New’ Marijuana: What Every Parent Needs to Know,” a virtual event with Darien Chief of Police Don Anderson, Liberation Program’s  John Hamilton and Silver Hill Hospital’s Susannah Lewis.

These local experts will discuss CT’s new marijuana laws & the drug’s effect on our youth.  The free event will be held on Tuesday, January 25th at 7 pm on Zoom; registration is required here.

“Our survey of Darien student mental health and substance use found that by their senior year of high school, 4 out of 10 students reported trying marijuana,” noted Thriving Youth Program Director Emily Larkin. “This program will provide parents with critical information about how marijuana impacts the teen brain and strategies for keeping open lines of communication with their teen about marjiuana and other substance use.”

About TYTF

The Thriving Youth Task Force (TYTF) is a volunteer coalition that convenes local community organizations to promote and empower positive youth development, with the goal of reducing teen substance use. The diverse group includes mental health, substance use and healthcare professionals as well as leaders from the schools, police, town government and clergy.  TYTF members have also provided insight and guidance for the nationally recognized “06820” campaign to examine the impact of alcohol on the teen brain and to encourage healthier attitudes and behaviors.  The TYTF, which is convened by The Community Fund of Darien, was created in 2008 and meets every other month during the school year.  For questions, survey results or more information, please visit www.communityfunddarien.org/thriving-youth-task-force.
