As the leaves fall and a chill fills the air, the arts are alive in the spirit of Halloween. Starry night festivals, haunted experiences, ghost tours, and Rocky Horror shows are blowing through this weekend’s arts and culture scene. Of course, you can also find comedy, music, art, and dance everywhere you look. Dare to do it all!

Starry Night at Farm Pond at Connecticut Audubon’s Center at Fairfield

Friday, October 21, 6:00 - 9:00 pm

Come at twilight and stay till the bonfire fades! The grounds of Farm Pond will come alive at sunset for an outdoor fall event raising funds for science education programs. Featuring favorite food-truck fare and spirits, plus Hitch & the Giddyup performing bluegrass, Americana, and honky-tonk country music.

Ted Alexandro at FTC StageOne, Fairfield

Friday, October 21, 8:00 pm 

Belly laugh alert! This comedian has appeared on David Letterman, Conan O’Brien, Jimmy Kimmel, Craig Ferguson and The View. He’s had two half-hour specials on Comedy Central and has performed at iconic venues like Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden and the Sydney Opera House, and appears regularly at New York’s Comedy Cellar.

Laura Benanti at SHU Community Theatre, Fairfield

As part of its Broadway on Post series, SHU Community Theatre hosts Laura Benanti, an Tony Award winning actress and singer who has received five Tony Award nominations, winning the 2008 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her role as Louise in the Broadway revival of Gypsy. She has also appeared on television in the production of The Sound of Music Live and several sitcoms and dramas.

 

Haunted House at Downtown Cabaret Theatre, Bridgeport

Friday, October 21 through Oct 30, 1:30 - 6:30 pm

Beware! This haunted walk-through experience holds surprises and scares at every turn. Explore 11 haunted chambers - cocoons, skeletons, clowns, masks, babies, pennywise, spiders, the headless horseman, and a graveyard! Not recommended for young children.

Ghosts, Seances & the Great Beyond Halloween Tours at Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum, Norwalk

Friday, October 21 through October 30, 5:30, 6:30, 7:15, & 8:15 pm

Ghost sightings, spiritualism, and talking to the dearly departed were pervasive practices in 19th-century America, and will be unearthed, once again, at the Museum, with a riveting and chilling program, chaired by Museum volunteer Rose Carroll, with a script written docent Midge Lopat. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. 

The Rocky Horror Show Live On Stage at The MAC, Milford

Friday, October 21 - Sunday, October 23, 7:30 pm

Award-winning Pantochino Productions brings back its acclaimed production of Richard O'Brien's cult classic for six performances. Equipped with a rock ‘n’ roll score which includes the iconic “Time Warp,” this comedic musical is an homage to classic B sci-fi movie and horror genres. Parental discretion advised.

A Haunting at Mill Hill at Mill Hill Historic Park, Norwalk

Friday, October 21, 8:00 & 9:30 pm and Saturday, October 22, 5, 6:30, 8, & 9:30 pm

Among the crooked gravestones of Mill Hill, ghostly entities are waiting to share their true stories of death, murder, insanity and destruction. All stories are based on real events from Norwalk’s haunted past. Presented by The Norwalk Historical Society. Tickets sell out fast; buy them in advance online.

October at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield

Saturday, October 22, 5:00 pm

This performance, choreographed by Phoebe Berglund, with music by Celia Hollander, is an abstract dance built on repetitive formal structures and inspired by the work “4 Into 3” by Cecile Abish, included in the current exhibition, 52 Artists: A Feminist Milestone. Berglund and dancers Elanor Bock, Emily Kessler, Jade Manns will perform in the Museum’s Sculpture Garden. 

Kevin James at The Palace Theatre, Stamford

Saturday, October 22, 7:30 pm

 

You might know him as Paul Blart, Mall Cop or Doug Heffernan on King of Queens. This comedian and actor started off in the Long Island comedy scene and was discovered at the 1996 Montreal Comedy Festival, and signed a network development deal to create his own sitcom, The King of Queens for which received an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. James has also appeared in several films including Hitch and Zookeeper.

The 21st Annual Pipescreams at First Church Congregational Fairfield

The pipes are tuned and ready to entertain you through a concert of Halloween-themed music. Soak up a rich tapestry of classical, jazz, musical theater & popular selections, including a 1920s comedy short, with live organ accompaniment. Performers include Michael Alderman, Frank Martignetti, Chris Muller, Frank Zilinyi and the UB University Singers.

Sunday, October 23, 4:30 pm

The Charles Ives Music Festival presents a program at Lund Hall, performing traditional and contemporary pieces, including works by Rachmaninov, Korngold, Jonathan Newman, Philip Lasser, and a work specially written for them by Paul Frucht.
