Norwalk Rock Band Edisun to Receive CT Legislative Award

Norwalk, CT: Connecticut State Senator Bob Duff and Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling will join local veterans to speak at the historic Wall Street Theater on May 26, at a ceremony to honor Connecticut’s long history of military service. They will also present an award from the Connecticut State Legislature to Norwalk rock band Edisun for their career service to United States Armed Forces. Edisun has performed overseas for US soldiers in over 20 countries since first visiting Iraq and Afghanistan in 2005.

The evening will begin with ceremony to take place at 7 pm, followed by a short film about Edisun’s career, and a performance to follow. Other local performers will include CT’s Got Talent Winner Riki Stevens, and Paul Green’s Rock Academy “Boot Camp” Band. Admission to the event is $10 with all proceeds going to Homes for the Brave, a highly rated 501c3 from Bridgeport, CT that assists US Veterans with housing.

“We are very excited and deeply honored to receive this award from Senator Duff, as well as Mayor Rilling, who we know is a former United States Navy E-5 himself. Our commitment to United States Armed Forces has always been about boosting soldier morale, and bringing a sense of levity to places where it is needed most,” said Ethan Isaac, lead singer of Edisun and co-owner of Norwalk’s Factory Underground, “Our soldiers, and our veterans, deserve our support. They are the real heroes.”

For Edisun, whose self-titled debut on EMI was released in 2011, and whose last album was released by Norwalk record label SRG in 2016, the mission to perform for US Armed Forces has continued throughout their recording and touring career. During their 2016 Afghanistan trip the band experienced a rocket attack by local insurgents on the base where they were staying, which resulted in no loss of life. The experience was another reminder of the serious dangers to performing in a war zone, over a career marked by aerial combat landings, blinding sandstorms, flying from base to base on Blackhawk helicopters to perform in some of the hottest temperature places on earth.

Jonathan Svec, former lead guitarist of Edisun, who will perform with them for the special occasion recalls: I remember one soldier that shook my hand with both his hands and wouldn’t let go. He said, ‘What you’re doing is so important, you have no idea. God bless you guys.’”
