Important COVID Update from Darien First Selectman, Jayme Stevenson

Today, Darien First Selectman, Jayme Stevenson shared an important COVID-19 "Code Red" update. Stevenson warned of COVID case spikes throughout the country among younger people here in Connecticut and urged the Darien community to remain vigilant - wear masks, social distance, and avoid large gatherings. She said, "We’ve entered a crucial time in the battle against COVID-19. Positive case reports in Darien have been low for the past two months and we want to keep it that way."

States across the country are seeing large spikes in the number of positive cases causing Governor Lamont to impose a 14-day quarantine requirement on travelers returning from the ever-increasing number of states of concern.  A list of Travel Advisory States can be found on the state website at https://portal.ct.gov/coronavirus

Here in Connecticut, we are seeing a change in the demographic of positive cases as younger people, teenagers and twenty-somethings, are now testing positive in larger numbers than in the past.  Gathering and vacationing with friend groups is problematic.

Everyone needs to do their part to prevent the resurgence of COVID in our community. We must not let our guard down as we continue our attempt to reopen Connecticut or it is very likely that the progress we’ve made will be reversed. So please, respect those around you and protect your family by:

  • Wearing a face mask when in public.
  • Maintain physical distancing from non-household members. Science tells us COVID is spread by droplets and most likely occurs when an infected person is less than six feet from someone else for 15 minutes or more without a face mask.
  • Wash your hands frequently or use hand sanitizer, especially after touching commonly touched surfaces.

We can’t stress enough how important it is for our children of all ages to follow this guidance as it will protect them and everyone around them, particularly those who are medically vulnerable, their parents and grandparents.

We are pleased to continue to provide drive-thru COVID-19 testing on Monday’s from 1:00 to 4:00pm and Friday’s from 9:00am-12:00pm at the Leroy West parking lot, 59 Leroy Avenue.  You can register for an appointment at www.coronatestct.com.

Please help us keep Darien a COVID-safe community.
