Darien YMCA Gymnasts Shine at Southern Leagues, Starlight Meets

Over the weekend of March 3-4, the Darien YMCA gymnastics team swept the Level 3 All-Around (AA) titles and captured the team Championships for Levels 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8 at the 2018 YMCA Southern Leagues Championship meet in Wilton.

In addition, Darien Level 10 gymnast Wells Fischer competed at the Starlight Invitational in Cambridge, MA. Fischer placed second on bars, third on vault and seventh AA.

In Wilton, Cate Travaglini set the pace for the champion Level 3 team, winning four out of five titles, including AA with a huge 38.1 and placing fourth on bars in the 10b age group. Annabel Clas placed sixth on bars and floor and seventh on beam. Rhea Rai was fifth on bars and seventh on floor while Hannah Dudek swung to fourth on bars.

Emma Bookless took first on beam, floor and AA with 37.85 in the 11s group, and was second vault and fourth on bars. Olivea Rosenbaum topped the podium on vault, floor and AA with 37.8 and was second on bars and third on beam in the 12 and up group. Brook Wallace earned fourth on vault, fifth on bars, second on beam and AA and tied teammate Meghan Canavan for third on floor. Canavan was the beam champ with 9.55 and was fifth on vault and third AA.  

Jacquelyn Coppola was champ on vault, beam and AA with 36.9 in the 6-8 years group, and was fourth on floor and tied teammate Penelope Hahn for fifth on bars. Hahn was also fifth on beam and floor, sixth AA and tied Heili Jalakas for seventh on vault. Jalakas also earned eighth on beam, tenth AA and tied Taylor Davies for seventh on bars.

The ties continued for Davies, who took first on floor with 9.4, ninth on vault and AA and tied Anna Rogers for 10th on beam. Rogers was also ninth on floor, eighth on bars and tied Courtney Timmeny for eighth on vault. Timmeny swung to second on bars and was eighth on floor.

Eve Calio placed fourth on bars, third on floor and second on all other events. Violet Peroni swung to second on bars, took third on beam, fourth AA, fifth on vault and seventh on floor. Kate Whitticom vaulted to third.

In the 9s group, Avery Hanson was the champ on vault, floor and AA with 37.75 and placed second on bars and third on beam. Hannah Reyna took third on bars, sixth on vault, seventh on beam and floor and eighth AA. Lily Royce earned fifth on beam, seventh on vault, eighth on bars and tied Sylvia Mickels for ninth on floor. Mickels was also eighth on beam.

Tatum Jaroch wrapped up the Level 3 AA title sweep for Darien, winning beam, vault and AA with 37.7 in the 10a group and placing second on bars and vault where she tied teammate Tanner Shanley. Shanley was also fourth on bars, second on beam, fifth on floor and third AA. Kaia Woodman scored sixth on vault and bars and seventh on floor.

The team champion Level 4s were led by Emily Rizzi, who took first on vault, beam with a huge 9.9 and AA with 38.15 in the 8-9 group, as well as third on floor and fourth on bars where she tied Ava Telgheder. Telgheder was also third on vault, fifth on floor and sixth AA.  Kayla Koproski was the floor champ with 9.8, placed third on bars and second on all other events.

Olivia Davis hit the flush, going 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 on floor, beam, AA, vault and bars respectively. Tess Hennigan swung to second on bars and was fourth on vault, fifth AA and sixth on beam and floor. Alyana Garcia had two pairs, taking fourth on beam and floor and seventh on vault and AA. Molly Zengo earned her meet high score on beam while Elise Hole’s top mark was on bars.

In the 10s group, Mina Leon took second on floor, third AA, fourth on vault and tied with Madeleine McGivney for eighth on beam. McGivney was also tenth on bars. Stella Nehro placed fourth AA, third on vault and beam, ninth on floor and tied Katie Cutler for fifth on bars. Cutler was also tenth on beam.

Alex Kuras was champ on beam and floor with huge scores of 9.8 and 9.75, as well as seventh on bars and fifth AA.  Regan Famigletti placed second on beam, fourth on floor, seventh AA and tenth on vault. Katie Primmer vaulted to sixth.

Reilly Costello won four out of five titles in the 11s group, including AA with 38.35 and placed second on floor. Isabella Koproski tumbled to first on floor with 9.65 and was fourth on bars, third on beam and second on vault and AA.  Annelise Enters took second on bars, fifth on floor and third on vault and AA.  

Ingrid Kerr vaulted to fourth and was sixth on beam. Megan Hayes took fourth on floor while Jahnavi Orr was ninth on bars. Jordan Moss earned seventh on both vault and floor.

Chloe Sernick topped the podium on beam and AA with 36.75 in the 12s group and was second on bars and floor. Bowen Burns hit two pair, with second on beam and AA and fifth on vault and floor. Mia MacDonald swung to the bars title with a huge 9.55 and was fifth on beam.

The second place Level 5 team was paced by Ava Licata who won the AA in the 11-12 group and was second on bars and beam and third on vault and floor. Tanner Generoso vaulted to first with 9.3 and was fourth on floor.

In the 9-10 group, Ellie Davies was steady to win beam with 9.4 and was third on floor and second on bars and AA. Else Del Bene took third on bars and fourth on beam while Emily McKee was fourth on floor and Sophie Root fourth on vault.

Carly Cambareri was the bars champ in the 13 and up group and was third on beam and fourth AA.  Alex Decsi scored third on bars and fifth on floor.

The team champ Level 6 squad was paced by Kristie Alianiello, who topped the podium on beam, floor and AA with 37.95 in the 12-13 group, and was second on bars and vault where she tied with Abigail O’Brien. O’Brien was the bars champ with 9.35, placed fourth on floor and second on vault and beam. Anna Primmer took third on beam, fifth on bars and AA and sixth on vault and floor. Sommer Schmidt flipped to fifth on floor.

In the 9-11 group, Anna Altier vaulted to first with 9.55 and was fourth on beam, and second on bars, AA and floor where she tied Lauren Smith. Smith was also third on bars. Julia Decsi took third on vault, beam, floor and AA. Ali Kolman never wavered in winning beam with 9.6.

In the 14 and up group, Megan Cutler topped the podium on vault and beam and was second on floor and fourth AA. Maggie Russell took second on beam and fourth on vault.

Sofia Iuteri paced the Level 7 team champs, winning beam and AA with 9.7 and 37.65 in the 11-13 group and placing third on vault and bars. Olivia Perkins vaulted to first with 9.4 and was third on bars and floor and second on beam and AA.  Abigail Nevin took second on bars and vault, fourth on beam and third on floor and AA.

Anna Moss swung to second on bars and was third on vault and fourth on all other events. Natalie Solis was the bars champ with 9.5 and was fourth on vault and fifth on floor. Emma Kelly took fourth on beam and fifth on vault and bars while Megan Mitchell was fourth on beam.

Emma Neaderland earned second on vault, bars, beam and AA in the 14-15 group. Lucy Collins topped the podium with 9.5 on beam and was third on vault, floor and AA. Lana Schmidt took third on beam and second on vault and floor.

In the 16 and up group, Kaitlyn Moussignac took first on vault, bars, floor and AA with 35.6 and was second on beam.  Kerry McDermott was the beam champ and was second on vault, floor and AA and third on bars. Lily Fairleigh took second on bars and third on all other events.

The first place Level 8 squad was led by Sofia DeStefano, who took first on vault and AA with 37.4 and was second on all other events. Saskia Chermayeff was the bars champ with 9.5 and was fourth on floor, third on vault and beam and second AA.  Sarah Cross took first on beam with a huge 9.65 and placed third on bars, floor and AA.

Leilani Nguyen tumbled to second on floor and was fourth on all other events and AA.  Bella DeStefano took fifth on all events and AA while Tori Ware was third on vault.
