Darien YMCA Gymnasts Rock Regionals!

At the 2018 YMCA Northeast Regional Championship meet in Augusta, Maine, the Darien YMCA gymnastics team captured five team titles and Avery Hanson, Tatum Jaroch, Kayla Koproski, Megan Cutler, Abigail Nevin and Kelsey Fedorko won the All-Around (AA) titles for their age group and level.

The second place Level 3 team missed first by just half a point. Avery Hanson set the pace, winning bars, floor and AA with a huge 37.65 in the 9A age group and placing fourth on vault and third on beam. In the 7-8 group, Jacquelyn Coppola was eighth on vault, third on bars, fifth on beam and second on floor and AA.  Eve Calio swung to the bars title with 9.575 and was second on beam, third AA and tied with teammates Taylor Davies and Penelope Hahn for sixth on floor.

Davies also captured first on beam and was ninth AA and on vault where Hahn placed seventh. Courtney Timmeny earned eighth on beam. Heili Jalakas was fourth on vault and Violet Peroni earned her meet high score on that event.  

Tatum Jaroch was champ on vault, beam and AA with 37.350 in the 10B group and was eighth on bars and third on floor. Kaia Woodman earned tenth on vault. Emma Bookless was the floor champ in the 11A group and placed fifth on bars, third on beam and second AA.  Rhea Rai earned seventh on both vault and bars.

In the 12 and up group, Olivea Rosenbaum vaulted to first with 9.6 and was seventh on bars, ninth on beam and second AA.  Meghan Canavan placed third on vault, eighth on bars, second on beam and fourth AA.  

Kayla Koproski led the champion Level 4 team, sweeping the titles in the 7-9 age group with a huge 38.05 AA. Emily Rizzi was third on bars, fifth on floor and second on all other events and AA.  

Tess Hennigan took third on vault, fourth on beam, seventh on floor and sixth AA.  Olivia Davis vaulted to eighth and was third on beam and floor. Ava Telgheder earned eighth on both bars and floor.

In the 10 A group, Mina Leon had a trio of seconds on vault, floor and AA and was third on bars and tied Stella Nehro for sixth on beam. Nehro was also champ on vault and floor and third AA.  Madeleine McGivney was steady for fourth on beam and eighth AA. Katie Primmer scored sixth on vault.

Regan Famigletti never wavered in winning beam with 9.45 in the 10B group and was fourth on vault, third on floor and sixth AA.  In the 11B group, Reilly Costello flipped to first on floor with 9.525 and was seventh on bars, second on beam, third AA and tied Bella Koproski for fourth on vault. Koproski was also sixth on bars, fifth on beam, second on floor and fourth AA.  

Chloe Sernick tumbled to third on floor and was fourth on beam and AA in the 12A group. Bowen Burns took third on beam and fifth on bars and AA in the 12B group.

The Level 5 team earned sixth place. In the 9-10 group, Ellie Davies was second on beam, sixth on bars and fifth on floor and AA. Emily McKee tumbled to third on floor where Elsa Del Bene earned her meet high score. In the 11s group, Sophia Geffner placed third on floor and seventh on vault and AA. Competing in the 13 and up group, Carly Cambareri and Alex Decsi earned their meet high scores on vault.

Kristie Alianiello led the champion Level 6 squad, winning the bars, floor and AA titles with 37.75 and placing second on vault and third on beam in the 12s group.  Melina Cardini vaulted to fourth and was second on beam, fifth on floor and sixth AA. Anna Primmer tumbled to second on floor and was eighth on bars and AA.  

In the 9-11 group, Anna Altier flipped to first on floor with a huge 9.6 and was third on vault and fourth AA.  Julia Decsi vaulted to fifth and was third on bars and floor where she tied Lauren Smith.

Megan Cutler was champ on vault and AA in the 14-17 group and placed fourth on bars, fifth on beam and fourth on floor. Maggie Russell earned her meet high score on vault while Sommer Schmidt’s top score was on beam in the 13s group.

Abigail Nevin paced the champion Level 7 squad as she continued her winning ways, taking the AA title with 37.10 in the 10-12 group and placing fourth on vault, third on bars and second on beam and floor. Anna Moss topped the podium on beam and floor with 9.3 and 9.45 and was fourth on bars and second on vault and AA

Emma Kelly was the beam chapm with 9.6 in the 13s group, as well as sixth on bars and ninth AA.  Olivia Perkins swung to second on bars and was third on vault, sixth on floor and fifth AA.  Sofia Iuteri took fifth on vault, sixth AA, seventh on floor and fourth on bars where Megan Mitchell was eighth.

In the 14s group, Emma Neaderland was steady for third on beam and fifth on floor while Lucy Collins swung to sixth on bars. Kaitlyn Moussignac was champ on vault in the 15 and up group, as well as fourth on floor and third on bars, beam and AA.  Lana Schmidt flipped to second on floor and was fourth on beam and AA.  Kerry McDermott vaulted to fourth and was fifth on bars and beam.

The first place Level 8 team was led by Nadia Borja, who scored fourth on bars and floor and third on vault and AA in the 10-12 group. Sophia DeStefano vaulted to second and fourth AA while Sarah Cross was fourth on beam.  In the 13-15 group, Saski Chermayeff placed third on bars, fourth on floor, second on vault and AA and tied Bella DeStefano for fifth on floor.

Tori Ware never wavered in winning beam with 9.475, placed fifth on bars and fourth on floor and AA. Leilani Nguyen soared to first on vault and was sixth on beam, third on floor and fifth AA.

Kelsey Fedorko and Gianna Cardini combined to win the Level 9 team championship. Fedorko topped the podium on bars, beam, floor and AA and was second on vault. Cardini vaulted to first and was third on all other events and AA.  

The team will now prepare for the YMCA National Championships in Toledo, OH in June.
