Women’s History Month at Darien Library

Darien Library invites you to celebrate Women’s History Month through a series of programs throughout March.

The Sweet History of Honey on March 11 at 7 pm: Why do we love honey so much? What makes honey so dark or so light? How many varietals of honey are there? Why does honey crystallize? Catherine Wolko, a second-generation beekeeper and owner of The Humble Bee Honey Company will answer these questions and more. Attendees will also taste five varietals of honey.

Art Lecture on March 18 at 7 pm: Art historian Larissa Bailiff joins us for a talk about German painter Paula Modersohn- Becker- an influencer on a young Picasso. In addition to looking closely at Modersohn-Becker’s strikingly modern and unique paintings, the talk will shed light upon the challenges of being a woman artist around 1900.

Martha Washington on March 25 at 7 pm: She married one of Virginia's wealthiest men. She became a wealthy widow at age 26. She was the first "First Lady of America." She was Martha Washington. Professional actress, Maggie Worsdale, portrays the First Lady in Her Life: Martha Washington.
