2020 Darien Chamber Charitable Foundation Scholarship Recipients

Charlotte Hamilton, Daughter of Anne Hamilton-Venture Photography. Recipient of the DCC member scholarship award

Charlotte is a rising sophomore at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT. She is an accomplished student in the School of Nursing and hopes to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Charlotte adores working with children and has spent many years mentoring, tutoring, and volunteering with kids in Darien and the wider community. At UConn, Charlotte is a member of Student Nurses' Association and is involved in local community outreach initiatives. Charlotte also enjoys studying science and reading research literature. In addition to her academic strengths, Charlotte is an avid musician and loves to play piano, guitar, and sing.

Tyler Roland, Son of Kate Roland-Everything Is Rosey. Recipient of the DCC member scholarship award

As a future English major of Loyola Marymount University, Tyler is thankful to have attained this scholarship as he hangs his toes over the edge of what's to come. Tyler has Asperger's Syndrome, and throughout high school, he has fought his hardest to overcome the socially difficult downsides of the condition, whilst exploiting its high points through his love of writing, automobiles, and music. Besides enjoying a fine read (he is currently midway through Jennifer Egan's Manhattan Beach), Tyler drives a 1978 Porsche 928 whilst occasionally working on it with his dad, and creates his own music using my basses, guitars, and some Logic Pro X to put it all together. Tyler is sure that this generous scholarship will enhance his experience out west.

Charlotte Domittner-Darien High School Scholarship Awardee

Charlotte Domittner grew up in Darien and has loved being a part of this community. Throughout my high school career I have moved three times and attended three different high schools - starting at Darien High School, then to Lake Forest High School in Illinois, then to The American School of The Hague in The Netherlands, and returned to Darien High School for her senior year.

Charlotte changed her plan to attend Amherst College as a result of the pandemic and on-line learning. Her plan is to return next year after taking a year studying and working in Austria. She will be taking courses at the University of Vienna and working there when not in school.

Charlotte's father is Austrian and as a result has been able to experience two cultures, as well as, living abroad in The Netherlands for my junior year and attending an International school. Her goal is to become an international or human rights lawyer and have already taken some steps into achieving this goal.
When she returns, she plans on interning at the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights.
