More than 650 People Complete in Darien Running Company's Frozen Feet Streak Challenge!

Darien Running Company and Ridgefield Running Company wrapped up the 4th annual Frozen Feet Streak Challenge on February 14th.

Participants logged at least one mile OUTSIDE every day for six weeks straight. Over 1200 people signed up for the free challenge, and over 650 completed the challenge. They were put to the test with single-digit temperatures and plenty of snow. They walked, ran, and hiked on various terrain; explored new neighborhoods, parks, beaches, and trails. Many brought their family along, and several dogs completed the challenge with their owners as well. There was even a participant that continued the streak after 2020’s challenge, now reaching over 400 days!

“This challenge was a really great opportunity for my husband and me to bond over making healthier choices. From the start of this challenge I am down 10 pounds, feeling more motivated and energized, and definitely more accountable for my health! ” says Amanda Frye, one of this year’s finishers.

“There were many days [my daughter and I] didn’t want to go out in the freezing cold but we did! I am so grateful for the time that I got to spend each day with her!” says Megan Helbig, first-time participant.

Allison St. Germain says this of her streak continuing from 2020 (February 14th marked 406 days): “My kids joined in this year and it’s definitely easier to motivate just one person (me) to get out the door than a 13 and 9 year old! But they did it and became really invested in the event. They loved tracking their miles and seeing how many other people were doing it too when I shared Facebook posts with them. It made us all feel a bit more connected to the community in this time of distance learning and remote work.” 2021 marks Allison’s 4th year of participation.

The Frozen Feet Streak Challenge partnered with the Norwalk River Valley Trail (NRVT). The NRVT will ultimately link 30 miles of trail from Norwalk to Danbury, and many of the participants visited the completed parts of the trail to do their miles, raising over $300 for the trail system. Finishers also received an exclusive Frozen Feet tech t-shirt for their efforts.
