Darien First Selectman Jayme Stevenson Community Update: Community Health Centers vaccine clinic for all eligible Darien students tomorrow

There have been 24 new cases in the two-week period since April 15th. Darien’s positivity rate stands at 1.88%. There have been a total of 1502 cases from 950 unique households and no new hospitalizations since my last report. Darien Public Schools report 8 active cases resulting in 14 quarantines. Over 55% of all eligible Darien residents have received their first dose of vaccine.

All residents 16+ are eligible for vaccine. Community Health Centers will be holding a clinic for all eligible Darien students this Saturday, May 1st with second doses scheduled for Saturday, May 22nd. The Community Health Center clinic is located at 110 High Ridge Road – the former Lord & Taylor site. No appointment is needed.

The CDC and FDA have lifted the pause on the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Darien Vaccine Clinics offer both Moderna and Johnson & Johnson as supplies permit. Town Clinics will continue through May on Wednesdays from 9am to 3pm. Appointments can be made but are no longer necessary.

If you are due or overdue for your second dose of Moderna or Pfizer vaccine, please don’t delay in getting it. The vaccine is at peak effectiveness two weeks after you have been fully immunized.

You can find a vaccine provider at www.CovidVaccineFinder.ct.gov or by calling 1(877)918-2224. Local vaccine providers include Grieb’s Pharmacy www.Griebspharmacy.com, Walgreens www.walgreens.com/schedulevaccine,  Stamford Hospital https://stamfordhealth.org, Yale New Haven Health www.ynhhs.org, Community Health Center www.chc1.com, and certain Stop & Shop Pharmacies www.StopandShop.com.

Statewide COVID-19 data can be found at www.ct.gov/coronavirus and Darien-specific data at www.darienct.gov/covid19. Please visit www.cdc.gov for more COVID-19 information.

COVID-19 restrictions will be eased on May 1st. Bars that do not serve food may open for outdoor service only. Food is required to be served with alcohol service indoors. The 8 person table limit will be lifted for outdoor seating and business curfews will move to 12:00am midnight. On May 19th, all remaining business restrictions will be lifted. Masks must still be worn indoors. The CT Department of Health will be issuing recommendations for indoor and large outdoor gatherings.

As we move closer to end of year activities like prom, graduation, performances, sports activities and other town events, we encourage all students 16+, with parent permission of course, to consider getting vaccinated. Being vaccinated reduces or eliminates the need for quarantining if there are COVID exposures.

The light at the end of the COVID tunnel is getting brighter…we’ll beat this thing together!
