Wall Street Theater Prepares for a Talent-Infused September

The iconic Wall Street Theater is thrilled to continue its mission of fostering young talent from across the state. Upon the success of the first Connecticut’s Got Talent show in February of this year and the recent spring stage production of “Fame” performed by WST’s Teen Musical Theater Program, Artistic Director Billy Blanks JR. has announced Connecticut’s Got Talent 2 scheduled for September 1, 15, 21 and the finale show on September 28, and has added a Dance Crew Challenge, with live auditions set for September 23 and the winners show on September 30.

On September 22, local queen of rock Jen Durkin takes to the stage with fellow musicians and female powerhouse performers Riki Stevens, Christine Tambakis, and Soul Sister Funk Jam. This exciting night of music is in support of Wall Street Theater’s Teen Musical Theater Program which is planning for its fall program with the musical production of Hairspray.

Through the Teen Musical Theater Program, students experience professional training in acting, dance, voice and theatrical production both behind the scenes and on the stage. They are able to experience the audition process and move into each stage of production with the theater’s skilled team of instructors, guest speakers and performers.

Connecticut’s Got Talent is currently seeking the area’s best comedians, singers, bands, dancers, magicians and specialty acts. The event will take place over four shows, including three weeks of auditions in front of a live audience where local personalities, the live audience, and an online audience will judge the competition.

“We’re in the throes of viewing video submissions of all styles of dance from hip hop, ballet, jazz, modern, tap, Bollywood, salsa, and even ballroom,” says Billy of the online and video submission process for the Dance Crew Challenge, “We will then narrow it down to 25 crews to perform for the audition show and ultimately, 10 crews will be chosen to perform at the finale show.”

The talent for both competitions, many of whom have never performed in a professional stage environment before, are provided with artistic direction, music and lighting production, stage presence coaching, and expert guidance. The winners will receive $1000 plus a headline show at the Wall Street Theater.

“We are looking for acts that we can help develop and grow into a show that can tour the US and come back to us to perform. We want young talent to say that they ‘got their start at the Wall Street Theater’”, beams Billy.
