Darien's Geary Gallery to Show Marla Korr's Work in January

Darien, CT - This January, the Geary Gallery of Darien cordially invites you to view “New England Reflections” featuring the ‘en plein air’ Northeast landscapes of Forest Hills, New York painter, Marla Korr. Her exhibit runs January 2 - 31 at the Geary Gallery located at 576 Boston Post Road in Darien.

January Featured Artist: Marla Korr

Marla Korr attended Brooklyn College, earning both a B.A. and a M.F.A. There she studied with Philip Pearlstein, Lennart Anderson and Jimmy Ernst. She has also studied at Stevenson Academy of Traditional Painting and New York Academy of Art.

As a full-time artist, Korr concentrates her vision on the rich landscapes of the Northeast as well as the marine images and changing atmosphere of Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, and coastal New England.

“Painting is my passion. I was surrounded by art for as long as I can remember, having grown up in a family of artists. My love of landscape painting was inspired by my father whose reverence of nature took our family each summer from New York City to the lush environs of the Hudson River Valley.

Being influenced by both Classical Realism and Impressionism, her paintings combine a range of feelings with technical excellence and craftsmanship. She is also an accomplished equine and portrait artist. Her natural ability and classical training enable her to express the subtle changes in light and atmosphere producing paintings which are sensitive and powerful. Korr also teaches a group of students, imparting to them the knowledge and methods she has practiced and the importance of integrity in art.

“In painting a landscape or seascape, I begin the process ‘en plein air’ where I can capture what I see and feel in the moment,” Korr explains. “This immediate experience and sensory memory prepares me to develop my impressionistic sketches into larger paintings. As a lifelong resident of New York City, I also paint the urban landscape with continued fascination of its iconic images.”

Korr also spends significant time painting on Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. “The marine imagery and magical atmosphere is my muse,” she says. “Whether the subject matter is rooted in the urban, marine or rural landscape, my vision is impacted by the transformative quality of light. My intention as an artist is to encourage you to have your own intimate experience of the paintings. My hope is that you will revisit them with continued pleasure and surprise.”

She has had exhibitions at numerous locations, including Cavalier Galleries in New York City and Greenwich, the Albany Institute of History & Art, Bergen Museum of Art and Science, National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C., and many more. She is a member of the Salmagundi Club, the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, the American Artists Professional League, and the Copley Society.

Korr’s exhibit runs January 2 - 31 and her paintings are available for acquisition. All are welcome and admission is free. To view some of her work, visit our online galleryhttps://www.gearygallery.com/?artists=marla-korr
