Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Julia's Salon & Company!

Three questions with the owner of Julia's Salon & Company, Julia Casabianca.

Why did you start your business?

I always dreamed of owning my own business. I wanted to create a place where not only I could grow but a place where other stylists and employees could build their own skills and careers. I feel that my employees are my extended family. I only want them to grow. I also wanted a place where clients are provided the highest level of customer service, thereby establishing a long-lasting relationship of trust and commitment.

What is your best selling product/service?

If I have to choose, I’d say color services. It’s critical to understand the client's vision and turn that into a reality. Understanding color and what works best for each and every client. Having the best line in color and treatments is essential to making this happen. I have worked for many years constantly gaining knowledge of new techniques and a better understanding of color.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

We happily support local businesses. We do this by displaying and sharing coupons in addition to the dialogue we have with our clients in our chair promoting other businesses. (examples include The Cashmere shop, Core Pilates Rowayton, Versailles Medical Spa. We also offer local teachers and law enforcement 20% off their service. Lastly, we offer senior citizen discounts.
