Scouts can get discounted admission during Badge Weekend Oct. 17 & 18 at Maritime Aquarium

Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts can be resourceful – and maybe even make progress toward earning badges – when The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk offers admission discounts and special workshops during its “Badge Weekend” Oct. 17 and 18.

On both Boy Scouts Day (Sat., Oct. 17) and Girl Scouts Day (Sun., Oct. 18), all Scouts – including adult leaders – can save on tickets. Discounted Scouts admission is $16 for children ages 3-12; $20 for adults; and $18 seniors 65+. Scouts must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, who also can use the discounted prices.

Those are thrifty savings off the regular admission prices of $19.95 for children, $26.95 for adults, and $24.95 for seniors.

Please note that, as with all Maritime Aquarium tickets now during the COVID crisis, Scouts must purchase their tickets in advance online. They can do so at www.maritimeaquarium.org/badge-weekend.

Admission for Girl Scouts includes a Maritime Aquarium Scout Day badge. (The badge is $2 for Girl Scouts who are Aquarium members, who receive free admission.)

In addition to the admission discounts, “Badge Weekend” includes a slate of optional workshops that, in some cases, can help to fulfill badge requirements.

For Boy Scouts on Oct. 17, an “Eco Explorers” program will focus on the ecosystem of Long Island Sound and how it relates to the global environment. Activities will include: using scientific tools to test the water chemistry of the Norwalk River; meeting live animals and learning how changing environmental factors are affecting their health and survival; and cruising out aboard the Aquarium's research vessel, RV Spirit of the Sound, to observe animals in their natural habitats. The program runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and costs $50 in addition to the discounted admission. Space is limited.

For Girl Scouts on Oct. 18, available workshops include a 45-minute “Daisy and Brownie Eco Tour,” a one-hour “Wonders of Water Journey” for Brownies, a one-hour “Animal Habitats Badge” program for Juniors, and a one-hour “Think Like A Citizen Scientist Journey” for Daisies and Brownies.

Costs of the Oct. 18 workshops range from $8 to $10 in addition to the discounted admission.

Advance registration for any workshop is required.
