Why Small Businesses Matter Reimagined

Small businesses matter - now more than ever. They are answering the call with innovation and determination like never before.

We hope you join us in supporting them by sharing their story far and wide and shopping local! We are thankful to Fairfield County Bank for their continued support and making this series possible.

Three questions with David Wagner, Proprietor, and founder of Sipstirs.

What do you want the community to know? Are there ways for the community to help you and other local businesses to prosper?

At Sipstirs, we do our best to center ourselves within the community by partnering with other local small businesses, social organizations, and non-profits. Additionally, we cross-promote and share each other's campaigns on social media platforms. As Vice-Chairman on the Darien Chamber of Commerce Board, I have been working on partnerships like these to shed light on the importance (now more than ever) of shopping at local small businesses. Together with Darien Chamber of Commerce and The Corbin District, we created an incentive rewards program that supports local holiday shopping this season. The program is called #DarienTogether.

My hope is that residents participating in this program will aid local shops after this tremendously tough year.

Are you offering any new products or ways for customers to purchase your products or services that are popular during this crisis?

Just before lockdown in March, we released a new platform as a mobile app and website that allows customers to purchase at their fingertips from anywhere. It allows easy access to all our inventory and the convenience of curbside pickup or local delivery. We also frequently accept phone and email orders during social distant times.

One of our specialties is finding products for our customers they have had elsewhere or special ordering items we don’t yet carry. The online store is available through our website as well as on iPhone and Android as an app. We offer a $10 off $30 on customers’ first order to test the convenience and ease of the app. by entering the code 10OFF30. People can also follow our social media activity @sipstirs to see what is happening in the shop.

A great introduction to the Sipstirs experience is our monthly wine club that offers unique offerings from around the world. This is a great way to find new wines that someone may not have seen or ventured to taste.

Are there certain individuals or organizations that supported you and your business through this trying time?

I would like to thank the community for their active patronage of the shop as we were one of the few businesses allowed to stay open during the state mandate. Additionally, we were continually supported by our corporate clients and helped shift events to online platforms such as Zoom as an alternative to in-person events. I would also like to thank The Corbin District here in Darien as we have partnered together on community wine tastings. Lastly, thanks to the volunteer leadership at the Darien Chamber of Commerce and all our small businesses for supporting each other during this time. We are all in this together, #darientogether.

Sipstirs is located at 1053 Post Road in Danbury. Visit them online here, and also make sure to check out their Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages as well!
