The Darien Arts Center has announced the addition of new group classes for grades 2 through 12 to its music program this fall. In addition to private lessons in piano, voice, guitar, violin, viola, flute, cello and percussion, the DAC is now offering group classes in singing/songwriting, guitar and ukulele that will be taught by professional musician Dan Saulpaugh.
“While all DAC instructors are professionals chosen for their individual artistry and teaching skills, Dan brings the experience of an active performing and recording artist in the New York City metro area to his approachable, yet effective teaching style,” commented DAC Music Director, Juanita Bosee.
Saulpaugh holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jazz Studies from City College of New York and spent time studying with Douglass Rubio at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music as a Classical Guitar Performance major before relocating to New York City. While at Crane, Dan toured with the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet playing in the guitar orchestra for performances of Shingo Fuji's "Shiki." At City College he studied privately with Thelonious Monk Institute Jazz Competition winner Lage Lund. He also works actively as a band leader and sideman and recently released his debut EP "Before the Fire Is Gone". He was a finalist in The Greene Space's 2015 Battle of the Burroughs: The Bronx and co-hosts the monthly jam session Jamhattan at Harlem's Silvana.
