Middle School Dance Classes Available at Darien Arts Center

The Darien Arts Center is offering several dance classes at darienarts.org for middle school students this fall led by DAC Dance Director Bonnie Gombos, and instructors Emily Frangipane and Brianna Gill. The popular DAC dance program offers students the opportunity to train in one of the finest dance spaces in Fairfield County and to participate in multiple performances throughout the year. Teen Lyrical Jazz for Grades 6 & up, with DAC Dance Director Bonnie Gombos, takes place on Mondays from 3:45-4:45pm and Teen Contemporary Dance for grades 7 and up with Emily Frangipane takes place on Tuesdays from 5:30-6:30pm. On Thursdays, Middle School Hip Hop with Brianna Gill takes place from 5:15-6:15pm and Middle School Broadway Dance with Emily Frangipane takes place from 6:15-7:15pm.

Bonnie Gombos, DAC Dance Department Director has been teaching dance for over 35 years and has been with the DAC for over 20 years. She delights in teaching students of all ages a wide range of dance styles from classical ballet, to jazz and modern. She also worked in Queens, NY and at Connecticut Ballet as a teaching artist for many years; working with Kids in Crisis, Trailblazers and in Juvenile Detention Centers.

Bonnie was a Dance Theater major at Queens College, N.Y. and received most of her training from Hannah Kroner, Finis Jhung and the New York School of Ballet, and holds a degree in Avionics from the College of Aeronautics.

She is the artistic Director of the Darien Arts Center’s Senior and Junior Dance Companies which perform at many venues, including the Palace Theater, charity events and Disney World. She directs and choreographs for the annual "Scenes from the Nutcracker" every December and the spring Ballet Series every April. Bonnie has achieved the rank of 5th degree black belt (Master) in Shaolin Kempo Karate and also teaches in the DAC Martial Arts program.

Emily Frangipane holds a BFA in dance from Emerson College and continued her study of dance in New York. Her choreography has been performed at the Magestic and Suffolk theaters in Boston and venues throughout Fairfield County as well as various choreographers showcases in New York City. As a performer, she toured the U.S. and Canada with the national tour of Jesus Christ Superstar as well as various roles in regional theater such as Fastrada in "Pippin". Emily is currently working in film, TV, commercials, industrials and print.

Brianna Gill, who has been a substitute teacher and a summer instructor at the DAC, now joins the faculty as the dance program expands to include more hip hop classes. Gill, an experienced dancer and instructor, is also a performer, choreographer and producer as part of professional dance company, Team Leggoo in Fairfield.
