Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Diane Weeks Art!

Three questions with Diane Weeks, founder of Diane Weeks Art.

Why did you start your business?

As a fine artist, I have exhibited etchings and watercolors for many years. Over time my work became more detailed, which lent itself to illustration work. I was asked to do a few pieces of scenes of Darien which grew into a line of stationary. From there I published a book about our town called “Darien Days”.

I love working in pen and watercolor and choosing subject matter about daily life in our town.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

The Barrett Bookstore carries my stationary, prints, and book. My book is also sold at the Darien Sport Shop.

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

I hope to expand my selection and offer more products to the community. I’m proud to represent the town that I and my family have lived in for almost 40 years.
