Why Small Businesses Matter
Shop small, do big things for your community
Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!
You're IT Betsy Holmberg!
Four questions with Betsy Holmberg, therapist.
Why did you start your business?
I have always been interested in therapy. There is no greater honor than being trusted with someone's story and truth. It is also incredibly rewarding to watch people heal and grow.
What is your best-selling product/service?
I specialize in EMDR therapy, which helps us process and heal trauma. It is a relatively new and exciting branch of therapy whose method is based on science. People tend to experience results much faster than with traditional talk therapy because EMDR triggers innate healing processes in the brain.
How many local businesses do you use to support your business and can you name them?
As a writer for Psychology Today, I spend a lot of time at the Darien Library. Their cafe has great snacks. I also love Grieb's Pharmacy, Post Corner Pizza, and the shops along Darien's Post Road.
Have you "reimagined" your small business?
I configured my business in a way that supports my values and well-being, which means that I am not striving the way I used to. For example, I don't do much on social media because I don't enjoy it, and I have a limit to how many clients I take on so that I can give each of them my all. I also respect clients' need to feel comfortable and connected to their therapist. To that effect, I do 15-minute introductory calls so that they can get a feel for me and my approach, and maintain a waitlist for those who want to work with me. People deserve to choose exactly how they want to approach their therapeutic process, and with whom.
