Fall openings remain in two popular after-school science programs hosted by SoundWaters: the Young Mariners Academy for middle school students and the SoundWaters Research Intensive for high school students.
Young Mariners offers students in grades 6-8 the opportunity for outdoor learning and fun with friends, through sailing lessons with US Sailing-certified instructors. Participants learn to sail larger and increasingly complex boats as they progress through the program. Indoor science enrichment will be offered in inclement weather and for the program’s November sessions.
The fall 2023 program will meet on Thursdays from 4 pm to 6 pm at the Cohen SoundWaters Harbor Center in Stamford’s John J. Boccuzzi Park, from September 14 to November 16.

The SoundWaters Research Intensive (SRI) offers high school students the facilities and opportunity for an advanced science research experience. Participants will have access to sophisticated equipment aboard SoundWaters’ research vessel as well as dedicated space in the Cohen SoundWaters Harbor Center laboratory. Each investigator will design and conduct original marine science research, culminating in a final presentation. All students will gain insights into human impact on the environment and factors contributing to climate change.
