Tree Falls on Car on Merritt Parkway in Stamford Killing Driver

Connecticut State Police report that yesterday, March 2, there was a fatal accident on the Merritt Parkway in Stamford when a large tree fell on the vehicle killing the driver and injuring the passenger.

The accident took place at 1:30 pm as the vehicle, driven by Jonathan Rodriguez Melendez of New Jersey was approaching the Riverbank Road overpass in the right lane. The vehicle came to a final resting point a 1/4 mile south of the overpass, police say.

According to police,the passenger in the car was Greenwich resident, Francisco Berdecia. He was transported to Stamford Hospital with minor injuries.

The investigation remains open.
