Stephen Knight
Stephen Knight was born and educated in London, England and has lived in South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, France, and now the U.S., where he has been a citizen since May 2004.
A resident of Centerville, Cape Cod, Knight paints scenes of coastal and maritime New England year-round, and has studied with master artists Joseph McGurl, Donald Demers and T. Allen Lawson.
After living and painting in five different countries, Knight is now inspired by the scenery of coastal and maritime New England, and particularly Cape Cod, which is his home.
Knight prefers to paint outdoors (en plein air). "I need to be at one with my scene to capture on canvas the immediacy of time and place," he explains. "My paintings are constantly evolving expressions of how I feel about my surroundings and I am fascinated by the effects of light and its role in revealing mood and atmosphere -- the solitude of lake, marsh and estuary; the sweep of sea and sky."
