The spring 2015 new members of the Junior League of Bronxville (JLB) collected over 5,000 diapers and 3,000 wipes for the recently opened Westchester County Diaper Bank. The diaper drive ran from April 15-30.
The Diaper Bank is run by the Junior League of Central Westchester through a partnership with County Executive Robert P. Astorino and the Westchester County Department of Social Services.
“The Junior League of Bronxville is proud to have collected thousands of diapers for the Westchester County Diaper Bank,” said JLB President Erica Sevilla. “It was a great opportunity for us to help mothers in our community and to help a sister League at the same time.”
JLB new members placed collection boxes at several local businesses and schools during the diaper drive. The League wishes to thank the donors and the location hosts for their support of the drive.
“Diaper deprivation” is a very serious problem affecting 1 in 3 mothers. Without an ample supply of diapers, babies wear used diapers or wear a diaper for too long, which can lead to poor health, infections and emotional struggles. Public assistance does not cover the cost of diapers, which means mothers often have to make tough choices between paying bills or buying diapers.
