Top 5 Things to Do in NYC This Summer

Though we may not think about it all too often, us Eastchester locals have always been very lucky to have the concrete jungle of New York City in our backyard. In a mere 40 minutes, you can be whisked away from the quiet suburbs into the bustling, magical borough of Manhattan. Even if it doesn’t have you conventional go-to summer hangouts, it has a never ending stream of activities and events that will leave every second of your day trip jam-packed with excitement. Here are a few things to do to kick off your summer right in the greatest city in the world.

  1. HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival - What’s better than night picnicking with a few friends and getting to watch a movie for free? This outdoor makeshift cinema is one of the most sought out events of the summer. Starting on June 22nd, every Monday night at Bryant Park is movie night, featuring films like Ghostbusters, Footloose, and Back to the Future. Ditch the chilly, air conditioned movie theaters this summer and enjoy a unique experience with the beautiful New York skyscrapers as your background!

  2. Central Park Summerstage Festival- Set at Rumsey Playfield, Central Park's Summerstage Festival is one of the most anticipated events of the summer. Who doesn't love free music? Be sure to check out this year's list of concerts as artists like The Kooks, Atlas Genius (June 24th) and Ingrid Michaelson (June 29th) are ready to rock the stage. Most importantly, don't forget to get there early-- since the shows are free of charge, entrance is based on a first come, first serve basis. Don't miss your chance at great live music in New York's favorite park!

  3. Coney Island Boardwalk- With it's  annual Mermaid Parade just around the corner (June 20th), is there really any reason for you not to visit the Coney Island Boardwalk? With the warm ocean breeze gently blowing in your hair, this Boardwalk gives you the chance to be away from the busy streets of New York, and to soak up the sun while enjoying that perfect ice cream cone.

  4. The High Line- Enjoy the view of the Lower West Side from up above and gain a new perspective of the city we have all grown up so close to. With 1.45 miles of greenery, this elevated, linear park offers you lovely floral scenery with every step you take.

  5. MoMA PS1 - Enjoy the summer heat at MoMA's craziest event of the year. From June 27th until September 5th, the Long Island Courtyard will be filled with DJs and bands who know how to start the party. Admission to the event will also cover entrance into the museum. Celebrate your love for the arts and buy your tickets today!
