Astorino Announces "Healthy Living" Conference for Spanish-speaking Seniors

Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino today announced that the 20th annual "Healthy Living" conference for Spanish-speaking seniors will take place on Saturday, Sept. 6 at White Plains Hospital. The free event for people 60 and older will take place from 8:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in the hospital's Marion W. Fried Auditorium, located at Davis Avenue and East Post Road in White Plains.

"Good health leads to a better quality of life in so many ways," Astorino said. "From higher energy levels to more active lifestyles, healthy living means happy living."

Seniors who live in Yonkers, New Rochelle, Mamaroneck and Port Chester who need transportation should also contact Sonara for bus reservations.

A bag with information on resources, complimentary continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Topics covered at this year's program will include: how to be pro-active about your mental health; and chronic renal insufficiency condition in the Hispanic population.

Dr. Adolph Soto, a psychiatrist at Saint Vincent's Hospital in Harrison, will speak about how seniors can be pro-active about their mental well-being. Dr. Mauricio Valdés, a nephrologist at the Saint Joseph's Medical Center in Yonkers, will discuss the causes of renal conditions, how this affects the kidneys, and the increased number of Hispanics affected with kidney conditions.

The program was organized by the Coalition on Hispanic Aging. It is sponsored by the Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services, White Plains Hospital, CenterLight Health System and GuildNet.
