Looking for great local gifts for the book-lovers in your life?There will be a Connecticut Authors Open House this Saturday, Dec. 20 at Book Club bookstore in Broad Brook. You'll have the opportunity to meet five talented local authors and to pick up signed copies of their books, starting at 10 a.m.
East Windsor author Lori Sanchez will stop by from 10 a.m. to noon to talk about her book, Finding Friends Everywhere. Written from the a child's perspective, the book tells the tale of a country girl in China who travels with her friend to a big city to visit her friend's family. The two farm children attend an English camp for children, taught by adults from around the world. The book celebrates friendship, culture and diversity. Both English and Chinese are used throughout the book.
From 10 a.m. to noon, South Windsor author Maria Carvalho will be there to discuss her children's book Hamsters in Space. The book tells the story of a hamster, cared for by an elementary school class, who somehow gets rocketed up in outer space. The boy who had custody of the hamster for the night must figure out how to rescue the hamster and get them both back home.
Also present is Willington author June Hyjek, author of Unexpected Grace: A Discovery of Healing through Surrender and the meditation CD, "Moving into Grace." Hyjek, a mind/body therapist, Certified Hypnotherapist, meditation teacher & Reiki master, writes about the journey to find physical, emotional and spiritual healing through life-changing challenges with grace and ease.
In A Magical Journey to Nana-Tucket, Farmington author Jean Dapra shares her seasonal tale about a mystical whale who ferries children to the island of Nana-tucket–a unique island inhabited largely by grandmothers, who await a yearly visit from their grand babies, whom they welcome with holiday treats and open arms. On the island, the children pick up the holiday, meet a marching band led by a mermaid, learn about holiday traditions in other cultures and receive a gift they will never forget.
Finally a young adult fantasy author from Suffield, Dean Ravenola, discusses his book Aether Warriors.” The tale centers around young Chase, whose life takes an unexpected turn when he discovers he’s an Aether warrior. He is the last in line of a small group of gifted children who must fight a war that takes place in an alternate, modern setting against an evil organization called Dark Flame.
