Fairfield HamletHub is very proud to welcome aboard Park City Liquidators (PCL) as a new advertiser! The Bridgeport-based warehouse realized an uptick in visitor traffic when we raved about them on the Facebook extension of our site a while back and decided to collaborate with us on a more concrete basis. To that extent, we have profiled the business below, featured their ad on our website home page – with click-through capability to their own website – and featured an album of photographs of their shop and inventory on our Facebook site (visit: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.496819210352857.119979.296073370427443&type=1&l=ca1a996a0a). This is a fine local business built on hard work and vision and we're glad to support it.
They often say good ideas are inspired by challenging times, and Park City Liquidators is a prime illustration of that. Manager John Nimba, whose family owns PCL, explained, "We moved up here from Queens, New York, back in 2000 and tried two businesses – a coffee shop and a gift shop. They didn't work out. Then, with college coming up for me and my dad needing to cover that, he started selling some of our things that we didn't need, out in front of our house."
John's dad, Victor, realized what he was doing was a good way to make a profit. "He started going around to neighbors and businesses to buy things cheap and then would sell them for $10 to $20 more than what he paid," said John. "He saved up enough to buy a little store at 2412 Main Street, in 2009."
That location – about 1,500 square feet -- took root and did well, and the family continued saving until, in January 2012, they opened a second location at 186 Island Brook Avenue. This is the main warehouse, with merchandise spanning two levels across about 7,000 square feet of space.
Inventory is well maintained. "We organize our inventory into categories and areas through our warehouse," John said. "Most items are price tagged and are clean and presentable. It's very easy to view our merchandise and someone here is always available to help answer any questions."
The business is well positioned for these hard financial times. "This is a tough economy and people are looking for bargains on quality items," John said. "People in this area were also especially hard hit by Hurricane Sandy and are looking to replace many home items and appliances. We're a good resource for their needs."
John could not be happier doing what he does. "It's always interesting to see new items come through the door and what the day brings," he said. "There's always something different. I never wake up sad that I have to go to work. I think you have to have that passion to be in the business and our customers share that feeling."
