Chemical peels are a great way to keep your skin young, especially after the summer, when brown spots and age spots tend to build up. They are popular because they offer nearly immediate results with minimal downtime. They are used to reduce or eliminate the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scarring, and uneven pigmentation. They are a great way to rejuvenate the skin and remove layers of dead skin cells.
Chemical peels are either made of a single acidic solution or a mix of weaker acidic solutions. When applied to the skin, the solution causes the outer damaged layer of skin to slough. Chemical peels vary in strength from very superficial peels to deeper, more aggressive peels. A greater effect can be obtained by using a stronger peel or leaving a peel on the skin for a longer period of time.
Chemical peels usually take about 2-3 days to cause the skin to actually start peeling. On average, the skin then peels for about 2-3 days. Peels can be performed in the middle of the work week so that the peeling starts by the time the weekend begins and the peeling is finished by the start of work on Monday. After any peel, it is important to apply a good sunblock that blocks both UVA and UVB wavelengths with at least SPF 30.
