
Southport, CT – Deirdre Daly, Connecticut's U.S. Attorney, fired the opening cannon at Pequot Library's 54th Annual Summer Book Sale on July 25, 2014. Ms. Daly is a Fairfield resident and longtime supporter of Pequot Library. Local and state officials were present for the book sale opening. After the book sale commenced there was a second ceremony in which Pequot Library's Executive Director, Martha Gates Lord, EdD, was presented with a State of Connecticut General Assembly Official Citation. The award was introduced by Representative Tony Hwang, 134th District; Representative Brenda L Kupchick, 132nd District; Representative Kim Fawcett, 133rd District; and Senator John McKinney, 28th District.
The official citation reads, "Be it hereby known to all that: The Connecticut General Assembly hereby offers its sincerest congratulations to: Martha Gates Lord. In recognition of your substantial and tireless work leading the Pequot Library. Your efforts have had a significant, positive impact on the Fairfield community, and have resulted in a material betterment of this beloved institution. Thank you and congratulations! The entire membership extends its very best wishes on this memorable occasion and expresses the hope for continued success."
