FBRA Provides Penfield Light Update

Fairfield, CT -- The Penfield Reef Lighthouse remediation and repairs are progressing nicely especially with the accommodating weather, according to a representative from the U.S. Coast Guard Aid to Navigation Team who spoke with Fairfield Beach Residents Association (FBRA) President Paige Herman.

Asbestos removal is the reason for the huge blue tarp and scaffolding presently encasing the lighthouse. The tarp will be removed this week.

New perimeter railings and hand rails have been installed. Next on the agenda will be the installation of a new roof, doors and windows. Some masonry work is also scheduled.

The main light inside the cupola has been repaired and has been working this summer. Work on the cupola last week obscured the light inside so the emergency backup VRB 25 light (on post atop the cupola) was lit when the US Coast Guard received a report that the main light appeared to be "out of order".
