Pequot Library Marks National Library Week

Southport, CT – From Sunday, April 10 - Saturday, April 16, 2016, Pequot Library joins libraries in schools, campuses, and communities nationwide in celebrating the dynamic changes that are happening in today’s libraries. April 10 - 16 is National Library Week, a time to highlight the changing role of libraries, librarians, and library workers.

Libraries today are more about what they do -- for and with library users, as opposed to what they have for patrons. Libraries aren’t only a place of quiet study, but also creative and engaging community centers where people learn about history through rare books, listen to stirring music, do work, conduct research, participate in a health and wellness class, enjoy a community event, encourage kids to make hands-on art, or just read and relax. Libraries are transforming. Whether it’s about education, jobs, or just getting ahead, the resources at your library can transform your life. Pequot Library will have a book display, plus sheets for the public to fill out about why libraries matter.

Pequot Library’s National Library Week programs include: beginning on Sunday, April 10, from 12:00pm – 4:00pm, a rare book exhibition, Pages from Pequot: Uncovering Shakespeare, which is open for the entire week; on Tuesday April 12 two-year-olds enjoy, Wee People, from 10:30am – 11:00am; Kids Knit!
