Poem in Your Pocket Day at Fairfield Library, April 21

Fairfield, Conn. - April is National Poetry Month and April 21 is Poem in Your Pocket Day. Started in New York City in 2002 and taken national by the American Academy of Poets in 2008, Poem in Your Pocket Day celebrates poetry by encouraging people to tuck a poem in their pocket to share with others wherever they go that day.

Fairfield Public Library will actually conduct Poem in Your Pocket “Week”, because one day just isn’t enough! Denim pockets filled with poems will appear at the Main and Fairfield Woods Branch Libraries starting on Poem in Your Pocket Day, Thursday, April 21 and be kept full through Thursday, April 28. The pockets will be hanging at the Circulation, Information and Children’s desks and at other spots in the buildings. Take one (or more!) from the pockets and put in yours to share with family, friends, work mates, the mailman, etc.

Schools, bookstores, libraries, parks, workplaces, and other organizations participate in Poem in Your Pocket Day each year. This is the second year the Fairfield Public Library has participated.
