FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Carmelo Cicero-Santalena of Wethersfield has been named director of capital projects for Sacred Heart University. He brings more than 15 years experience in project management to his new role.
Cicero-Santalena will oversee all aspects of construction-related projects, from initial authorization through planning and programming phases to final design, construction, commissioning and building turnover. He will develop and update projects, maintain budgets during design and construction, assure consistency in design and program and adhere to project schedules.
Cicero-Santalena’s initial projects will be managing the expansion of SHU’s campus into the Jewish Home property, overseeing construction of the new Center for Healthcare Education on Park Avenue and supervising the construction of the new WSHU and public safety building.
He comes to SHU from Colliers International, formerly known as Strategic Building Solutions, where he was a senior project manager for four years. He worked on a variety of projects for Collier, including universities, schools and senior living residences. Before that, he was a senior project manager for Solidus, Inc. for six years.
He said he is looking forward to the new challenges ahead. “I am proud to oversee so many important projects already in the works, and I will ensure they move along smoothly without intruding on the University’s daily operations,” said Cicero-Santalena. “I’m confident my expertise and knowledge of project management will help the University grow and reach its goals.
Cicero-Santalena resides in Wethersfield with his wife and three daughters.
