Southport, CT – What’s so funny about politics? On Thursday, October 27, at 7:30pm, Pequot Library presents the funny side of serious elections. A Picture is Worth a Thousand Votes: The Power of Symbols in Political Cartoons will be presented by Sean Kelly in the Auditorium. Kelly is an award-winning illustrator, teacher of visual thinking, and Southport, CT resident. He explores how simple images and humor have influenced American culture throughout history. Refreshments at 7:30pm, Mr. Kelly’s talk will begin at 8:00pm. Free and open to all.
Sean Kelly is an illustrator whose clients include The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Businessweek, Rolling Stone, and The Atlantic. His visual commentaries on politics have appeared on the Op-Ed page of The New York Times. Kelly also presents seminars on creativity and innovation and is a consultant to corporations and media companies. He has won awards from The Society for Illustrators and was named Best Newspaper Illustrator in 2007 by the National Cartoonists Society. He is a graduate of Brown University, and in 2012 he received a USC Annenberg/Getty Fellowship in Los Angeles. Kelly was chosen as one of Fairfield Magazine’s 25 Most Intriguing People.
