College Planning for Musicians: Panel Chat at Pequot Library

Southport, CT – Join Pequot Library and Music for Youth in a panel discussion uniquely tailored to students who want to continue their music studies in college on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. The panel will address how to leverage the students’ music skills in the application process, discuss critical issues concerning financial planning, and review the importance of preparing recommendations, résumés, and recordings.

The evening’s moderator is Candace Channing, founder of Channing College Consulting. Ms. Channing is an internationally acclaimed flutist and master flute instructor who is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, with a bachelor’s degree in flute performance and literature, and a concentration in psychology.

The panel will include Katherine Taylor, principal clarinetist with the Greater Bridgeport Symphony; Lauren LaRusso, who attended Amherst College and the University of Connecticut and now works full-time at Channing College Consulting; Kyle Ryan, who studied production and engineering at Berklee College of Music later attended graduate school for music education, and is now a full-time public school music teacher; Alexis (Kende) Walls who trained at the Juilliard pre-college program and has degrees from Princeton and NYU; Jon Saxton, attorney and jazz saxophonist; and Joseph Bogardus, a certified financial planner with the Barnum Financial Group.
