There was a full house and festive feeling at Faust Harrison Pianos showroom Sunday afternoon, December 15 as excited parents filled the performance gallery there to enjoy a wonderful local seasonal tradition. The occasion was a two-hour Holiday Winter Concert piano recital conducted by Westport, CT-based pianist and instructor Jenny Ong, of Jenny Ong Music Studio.
In all, 27 students performed 55 mostly Christmas-themed songs with several true classical tunes and popular ballads added to the mix. Performers ranged from the youngest beginners to Ms. Ong’s eldest students, spanning ages 6 to 18, with the degree of music complexity increasing through that span. Besides popular medleys by composers like Irving Berlin, audience members were treated to masterpieces by Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Bach and Debussy.
The cap to the concert was a trio performance by Ms. Ong at piano, Madeleine Corliss on cello and Corrinne Metter on violin. The three have the shared experience of being instructors in the KEYS (Kids Empowered by Your Support) music program based in Bridgeport, CT. A reception followed the concert, wherein guests enjoyed contributed food and drink.
