Four questions with Michael Lux, founder of Lux Media Solutions.
Why did you start your business?
A dream of mine has always been to become a marketing consultant. Before college through my high school's guidance department, I met with a local marketing consultant out of Westport and fell in love with the job. After 20+ years in the corporate marketing & agency worlds, the COVID pandemic forced me to make a snap decision - explore my dream now or possibly never. 3 years later it proved to be the right decision for me.
What is your best-selling product/service?
Probably holistic marketing strategy - instead of focusing on something specific without having the full view of the business and brand.
How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?
Many. The 2nd half of Lux Media's service model is that we're also a full-stack marketing and media agency - we have access to several trading desks, which allows for robust national/local data and research, as well as the ability to buy audience-specific media at scale.
That calls for partnering with both local and national specifically service providers - for example, for creative design, branding, and social media, we have Milk Sono. For high-quality video production/social media content, we partnered with A2VMedia out of Fairfield. We never whitelabel and instead, find the best value for our clients in partnering by specialty. That way we can extend services if/when needed in a way that makes working with an agency much more realistic and flexible.
Yes, and I do this daily. We are always trying to evolve our business model and thinking of new creative ways to break through and succeed. COVID forced a lot of industries to rethink their models and we certainly got ahead of the curve by creating an agency model that brands and business owners benefit from - flexibility, transparency, and big-box agency experience, for the small to medium-sized business world.
