MoCA Westport Announces Its One-Day Kaleidoscope Exhibit, Aug. 27

Westport, CT - MoCA [Museum of Contemporary Art] Westport is proud to announce its one-day Kaleidoscope exhibition on Sunday, August 27th from 12–4 PM. Kaleidoscope features works from both MoCA Gives Back Healing Arts and Camp MoCA Westport participants.

Curated by Healing Art Instructor Lewis Derogene, the MoCA Gives Back exhibition is a celebration of MoCA Westport’s commitment to offer equitable access and meaningful experiences, including employment and access to the arts, to those who are under-resourced in our community.

The exhibition showcases artwork created by those who participated in healing arts classes led by MoCA Westport’s art instructors. The artwork reflects the participants’ inspiration, joy, and deeper connection to the world that they experienced through the healing power of art.

Simultaneously, camper artwork will be on view, created by participants in the Camp MoCA Westport 2023 summer season. MoCA Westport’s weekly summer art camp for kids features arts experiences aligned with the Museum's exhibitions as well as outdoor activities, gardening, music and more.

This summer, young artists at Camp MoCA Westport embarked on an unforgettable adventure of self-discovery, family connection, and community engagement. Through the exploration of diverse art styles and renowned artists, they delved into themes of self-expression, family, and community, while honing their artistic skills and fostering character-building traits such as trustworthiness, responsibility, respect, fairness, and citizenship. Over 200 artworks created by the campers will be on display to celebrate; all campers’ artwork will be displayed.

“Our campers discover the transformative power of the ‘ish’ mindset, which encourages creativity and self-expression without the constraints of perfection. Embracing this approach, they learn to appreciate the beauty of imperfection, adopt a growth mindset and focus on the process of creating, experimenting, and learning,” explained Anne Greenberg, MoCA Westport’s Director of Education.

“To view these young artists’ works, alongside the works created by our MoCA Gives Back participants, reveals the universal transformative and healing power of creating art,” Greenberg added.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase from onsite food trucks.

Advance registration for Kaleidoscope on mocawestport.org is requested, but walk-ins are also welcome. There is a suggested donation of $10/adult.

MoCA Westport thanks its sponsors, Meredith Cohen Realty Group and The Dale & Laura Kutnick Foundation, for helping to bring Kaleidoscope to fruition.
