Meet Derek Blaquiere, founder of Tucker’s Pie Co
Why did you start your business?
We started Tucker's Pie Co to bring a spin on the classic pot pie. As an expat growing up in the UK and living in Australia, pot pies are a food staple that come in all shapes and sizes and a wide variety of flavor profiles including the classic ground beef pie, steak and Guinness, chicken, ham and leek, and curry chicken. With a craving for a good pot pie, I went on a mission to find something similar in the local area. Trying many pies from a variety of specialty stores including online, I felt the offerings fell short of a decent pie, so went about making my own. After many attempts and scouring hundreds of recipes, I was able to create the perfect crust that would hold up to any savory filling. After sharing with friends and family, the feedback was extremely positive so I decided to offer the pies to a wider audience and leased a commercial kitchen in Fairfield. We have a passion for Pies and love everything about them. Essentially, it is the perfect vessel for a variety of fillings that become the ultimate comfort food.
What is your best-selling product or service?
We have five signature pies, classic chicken pot pie, chicken, ham and leek, steak and red wine, steak and Guinness, and a birria brisket pie. They are all our best-selling products. We also have monthly special pies such as the butter chicken curry, meatball parm, and shepherd’s pie (to name a few!) In addition, we make a range of quiches.
Currently, we serve the local Fairfield area and surrounding towns, however, due to the large volume of inquiries we are about to start shipping some of our products nationally. As our brand grows we also hope to be able to start selling wholesale. So what started out as a craving for pot pie, has turned into a fast-growing business!
