Fairfield Fire Commission Promotes Seven New Officers

FEBRUARY 5, 2013: At its Tuesday evening meeting in the John Sullivan Independence Hall, Fairfield's Fire Commission made public the results of recent promotional examinations, announcing the promotions of Lieutenant Schuyler Sherwood and Erik Kalapir to Assistant Chief and Fire Fighters Dennis Eannotti, Jim Shiller, Jay Swindon, Jeff Edmondson and Bob Smith to Lieutenant effective Friday, February 8th.

The promotional lists were promulgated, or formally announced, in the parlance of collective bargaining agreements, as the result of written and oral examinations which took place in the month of January after their postponement in late October due to Hurricane Sandy. Seven Lieutenants were named on the promotional list for Assistant Chief - Schuyler Sherwood, Erik Kalapir, Patrick Barry, Roger Caisse, John Cronin, Darrick Lundeen, and Phil Higgins, Jr. – and the first two were promoted to the Shift Commander openings on C and D Platoon. Thirteen Fire Fighters were named on the promotional list for Lieutenant – Dennis Eannotti, James Shiller, Jay Swindon, Jeffrey Edmondson, Robert Smith, Scott Trembley, Brian McHugh, Joseph Galla, Jeffrey Pinckney, Jonathon Catandella, Thomas Pond, Kevin Polcer, and Finn MacDaniel – with the first five promoted to Lieutenant openings as Company Officers across the four shifts.

Many family members were in attendance for the meeting at which each new officer was asked to stand for applause when their name was announced by Chief Felner; a more formal ceremony will be held next Tuesday at a Fire Headquarters on Reef Road for family, friends and department members to celebrate their promotion. "I'm very excited about these promotions; we have a lot of young talent and we're looking forward to moving ahead," said Chief Felner after the announcements. "Our promotional process is very thorough, and my goal is that my fire fighters get home after every shift and all our citizens are safe. Like it says on our trucks, our family is here to serve your family."
