DFCAC Foundation Allows CLASP to Offer Art Classes

Westport, CT - CLASP offers much enjoyed art classes to their Westport and Weston underserved clients thanks to the Drew Friedman Community Arts Center Foundation (DFCAC). With Nick Visconti, the chairman and Miggs Burroughs, a board member, both at the helm, the Foundation’s financial generosity has allowed CLASP to hire teachers and provide materials for this exciting creative endeavor.

CLASP is buzzing with excitement over their month-old art classes where various media is explored. “From pastels to acrylics to collage, working both on paper and on canvas,” explained CLASP teacher, Leonor Dao, “allows me to assess how everyone works, what interests them, how they hone their artistic skills. It gives me great pleasure to find this special atmosphere where every person feels proud of their work, and we all have a really great time!”

Tracy Flood, CLASP President shares, “We’re grateful for this generous grant from the Drew Friedman Community Arts Center Foundation, enabling us to fulfill the longtime goal of creating an art program for the men and woman with autism and developmental disabilities that CLASP serves. Our participants’ artwork gives us a glimpse into their world that might have otherwise gone unnoticed. The ‘CLASP Artists in Residence’ are creating original pieces that they are looking forward to showing at the Foundation’s May Gala. Thank you to Drew and Nick for expanding the world of our CLASP family!”

These artists will have their work exhibited alongside fellow Foundation recipients from Homes with Hope, the Westport Historical Society, and the Westport Arts Center on May 17 at The Woman’s Club.
